Charges laid over fall from height at remote cattle station

A company and a builder have both been fined after an investigation into a workplace incident that happened in NT.

The article - which can be read here - cites a number of failures by the company and the builder, including:

- failure to provide safe systems of work per section 19(3)(c);
- failure to ensure the safe use, handling and storage of plant per section 19(3)(d);
- failure to provide information, training, instruction or supervision necessary to protect all persons from risk to their health and safety arising from work being carried out as part of the business or undertaking as per section 19(3)(f);

An thorough induction and safety management system would likely have covered these 3 items. The builder was also fined for not being able to provide any documentation regarding the safety and training of his employees.

The company may be fined up to $1.5M and the builder $10k personally.
